Phoenix Foam Roofing
Spray foam roofs, recoats and reflective coatings for commercial flat roofs.
Spray polyurethane foam is one of the most common flat roof systems in Phoenix. The foam is sprayed in place as one continuous layer with no seams. It adds insulation and can be built up to improve slope to drains. It is then covered with a coating that protects it from the sun.
The coating is what keeps a foam roof alive. When it wears thin, UV light starts breaking down the foam underneath, which shows up as dark, eroded spots. Recoating on schedule protects the foam and is far less disruptive than replacing it.
Reflective roofs are part of how Phoenix manages heat. A December 2021 City of Phoenix memo on cool roofs says the City has used them on Public Works buildings since 2005, has coated more than 70,000 square feet of City property, and saw a 17% drop in energy use at participating buildings. The same memo notes that new commercial flat roofs are checked against a Solar Reflectance Index of 64 before plan review, so we specify white membranes and coatings with that in mind.

Foam sprayed over a prepared roof, shaped for drainage and then coated.
High-solids silicone that resists ponding water and reflects the sun.

Mineral granules in the topcoat for walkways and areas with foot traffic.

Exposed or damaged foam cut out, refilled and recoated.
| Silicone | Acrylic | |
|---|---|---|
| Ponding water | Handles standing water well | Best on roofs that drain well |
| Recoating later | Usually recoated with silicone | Recoats easily with acrylic |
| Dirt pickup | Can hold dust over time | Tends to stay cleaner |
| Best fit | Low spots and older foam roofs | Well-drained roofs on a regular recoat cycle |
The right coating depends on how your roof drains, what it is coated with now and how long you plan to own the building. We confirm compatibility before any coating goes down.
It depends on the coating type, the thickness applied and how much sun and foot traffic the roof gets. We measure the remaining coating and recommend a recoat before the foam is exposed.
Often, if the existing roof is dry and well attached. Wet areas are removed first. A moisture survey tells us whether a recover is a good option.
Yes. White roof surfaces reflect much more sunlight than dark ones. The City of Phoenix's own cool roof work reported a 17% drop in energy use at participating City buildings.
Recoats are done from the roof with no tear-off. We schedule spraying and rolling around wind, HVAC intakes and business hours.
Tell us about the roof and when it was last coated. We will check the foam and coating and recommend a plan.
